Pride season is only a few weeks away!! Every year, each GLBT club dedicates an evening to support Rhode Island Pride as we countdown to the big event: RI PrideFest & Illuminated Night Parade.

The nights will be filled with free giveaways and promotions from some of our dedicated sponsors: ID Lubricants, AIDS Care Ocean State, Bud Light, and Bacardi. This year’s Countdown to Pride will offer live entertainment, social outings, special themes, drag shows, comedy, erotica and of course the infamous Lube Wrestling Contest.

Wednesday, June 4 - The Year in Review – Equity Action @ 4:00PM – 6:00PM - RI Foundation, Exchange Terrace, Providence. Equity Action invites you to join a conversation about the current work happening in RI’s LGBTQ communities. We hope the conversation builds greater understanding of the good work already happening, inspire new collaboration, and identify areas where new work may need to be undertaken. The event takes place at The Rhode Island Foundation. Although admission is free, space is limited and reservations are required. Wednesday, June 13 - Providence Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Preview - Films made by, for and about the GLBT community take the spotlight in a special celebration preview through a partnership between the Rhode Island International Film Festival and RI Pride. The preview will feature cutting edge shorts and a sneak peak of a major new feature film. This year the GLBT festival during RIIFF in August is screening over 40 films from across the globe on an array of topics that touch everything from relationships, gay marriage to military policy. Friday, June 20 - RI Pride VIP Party at the site of RI PrideFest, Bank of America City Center, Providence. This event is sponsored by LOGO and Cox Communications. This Hollywood-style hob-knobbing event will feature personalities from the LOGO Channel. This exclusive event is open to those who are members of the RI Pride 100 Club, President’s Circle, Sponsors and VIP Guests. SATURDAY, JUNE 21 - 2008 RI PrideFest & 32nd Anniversary Celebration 12:00-8:30 Bank of America City Center and Burnside Park (Across from the Biltmore Hotel) – New England’s second largest pride celebration features the largest GLBT Marketplace and Business Exposition in the region with a mix of national and local entertainment. The RI PrideFest also features the Kidz Pride Zone, an area specifically created for children, kids and families. The diverse offerings at the PrideFest draw a mix of individuals and families of all ages.

RI PrideFest’s Main-stage Line-up of Entertainment - June 21 – 12:00 - 8:30 pm. RI Pride is please to announce headlining this year’s PrideFest: TIFFANY! Joining her on the stage is one of the most impressive line-ups in RI Pride’s history featuring talents both national and local. Performers include: former Motown recording artist Danielle Andrews, crowd favorites Sister Funk, BellaMinx Burly-Q, and Heather Rose and the Drama. Also sharing their talents will be: Aden Mott, Rolla, Chelsy Lau Band, The Candace Brooks Band, Imperial Court of Rhode Island, Greg Bonin, Sabrina Blaze, Jackie Collins. Talents from as far away as New York City and Washington, DC include Ariel Aparicio & The Hired Guns, Jason Walker, and Tom Goss plus many more surprises. Special performances by Miss Gay RI 2008 Jaqueline DiMera, Ms. Lesbian RI 2008 Lara Sebastian and Mr. Gay RI 2008 Sean Powell are planned for the fest. Miss Kitty Litter, Haley Star will round out the line-up as emcees for the day.

RI Pride’s Illuminated Night-Time Pride Parade –June 21 – 8:30PM (sundown) begins @ Bank of America City Center – New England’s only night pride parade is one of the highlights the RI PrideFest. The RI Pride Night Parade is a dazzling display of floats, performing artists, marching groups and spectators that wind through downtown Providence and culminate at the RI Pride Reviewing Stand under the historic marquee of the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Saturday, June 21 - KNITTING NATION PHASE 4: PRIDE. Designer and RISD professor Liz Collins will stage KNITTING NATION PHASE 4: PRIDE. The piece will be an homage to and reconstruction of the original rainbow pride flag. It will ascend the steps and hill at Waterplace Park over the course of 6 hours, engaging all who enter this picturesque public space in the center of Providence from noon-6pm. Sunday, June 22 - RI Pride Hangover Drag Brunch-Downcity at 50 Weybossett, Providence, RI, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm – This special pride brunch serving up a delicious array of foods and cocktails, guaranteed to knock out that Pride hangover. Sunday, June 22 - RI Pride Sunday Block Party, Bank of America City Center (site of PrideFest) from 2pm – 8pm. Produced by Chris Harris Presents. This will be the finale of the RI Pride Summer Celebration. DJs from around the area will be lending their talents as we celebrate the close of another pride season. Admission $10.00.
